Tucson International Alliance of Refugee Communities, Inc. (TIARC) is a Mutual Assistance Association (MAA) that provides services to refugee communities who have been resettled in Tucson and Pima County.
Members of Vietnamese, former Soviet Union, former Yugoslavia, Laos, and Angolan refugee communities organized TIARC in the summer of 1995, with the assistance of Pima County Adult Education Program. The group came together with the purpose of helping refugees adjust to their new lives in the USA. Many critical areas of concern needed to be addressed, such as good education for children, employment, crime prevention, law enforcement, cultural adjustment and preservation, housing, and health care.
The primary goal of the organization is to assist refugees to achieve economic self-sufficiency, an acceptable measure of social integration into American society, and the ability to utilize main stream public and private resources.
